Richard "Rick" John Boven, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on June 1, 1957, in Kalamazoo, he was the beloved son of Richard G. and Carole (Hinckley) Boven and grew up alongside his brother, Scott, in the community he would proudly call home throughout his life.
Rick graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and continued his education at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He built a career doing what he genuinely enjoyed-connecting with people-through his work as a car salesman at Michigan Auto Sales. Known for his friendly nature and easy conversation, Rick found special joy in working alongside his son, Dan, sharing not only the profession he loved but also countless memories.
A true enthusiast of life on the move, Rick had a passion for cars, boating, and taking scenic drives in his beloved sports cars. Whether on the water or the open road, he embraced every opportunity for adventure. Yet, above all else, Rick treasured his role as a grandfather. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in cheering them on, sharing stories, and creating lasting traditions they will carry forward.
On August 24, 1980, Rick married the love of his life, Dawn Brown. Their enduring partnership was built on love, laughter, and unwavering support, forming the foundation of a close-knit family. Together, they raised three children-Richard, Daniel, and Meghan-instilling in them the same warmth and dedication that Rick showed to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Rick was preceded in death by his father.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Dawn (Brown) Boven; his children, Richard (Pamela) Boven, Daniel (Kassie) Boven, and Meghan (Trevor) Faas; his treasured grandchildren, Raquel Boven, Hudson Boven, Brayden Boven, Lincoln Boven, Daniel Boven, Chase Boven, and Macy Faas; his mother, Carole Boven; his brother, Scott (Terrie) Boven; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Rick will be remembered for his warm heart, his love for family, and his ability to make others feel welcome wherever he went. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he adored.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to a local animal rescue, honoring his compassion and care for animals.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
