Robert “Bob” D. Cosby, age 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 17, 2026, following a courageous seven-year battle with cancer.

Bob was born on June 4, 1938, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Calla and Henry Cosby, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ken (Vicky) Cosby and Hank (Lois) Cosby, as well as his first wife, Kathleen T. (Dvorsky) Cosby.

Bob and Kathleen shared two children: Nicole (Steve) Cosby-Cummings and their daughter, Keira; and Robert B. (Tamires) Cosby and their children, Julia, Agatha, and Duncan.

In 2010, Bob married Sheryl (Kirklin) Cosby, who survives him. He is also survived by Sheryl’s children, Scott (Leone) Kirklin, Lisa (Dale) Evans, and Steve (Gina) Kirklin, along with her ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserve and was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class.

A lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, Bob was born, raised, and educated in the community he loved. He attended and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, where he was active in tennis during his youth. He then moved on to Western Michigan University graduating with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, working for General Motors and other manufacturers in Michigan’s automotive industry.

Bob enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He had a love for golf and, in his younger years, had a special fondness for his Corvettes. He also valued time spent with friends and neighbors, especially as a regular participant in a weekend bowling league.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Story Point, The Vineyards, and Rose Arbor Hospice, with special thanks to Beth, Rachel, Ashley, and Jamie for their compassionate care.

Bob will be remembered as a man of few words who worked tirelessly to provide for his family.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on May 31st at the Kalamazoo Nature Center in the Glen Vista Gallery from 1 until 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions in Bob’s name be made to a charity of your choice.
