Robert Duane Hawley of Portage, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the age of 72. He was born on September 6, 1954, in Kalamazoo, MI. Robert was the son of Harry Hawley and Wanda Johnson.

Robert grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and attended Parchment Schools through the 10th grade before entering the workforce. He worked for more than 10 years at Allied Paper until it closed and later spent a period of time driving the delivery route for Paw Paw Laundry. He was known by his family as strong-willed, independent, and deeply family oriented.

Outside of work, Robert found enjoyment in the simple things that meant the most to him. He loved bass fishing, golf and bowling. For most of his life, he always had a cat around. Those who knew him will remember a man who valued his independence, stayed true to himself, and cared deeply for the people closest to him.

Above all, Robert’s family was his pride and joy. From his two children, Daron and Kevin, to his eight grandchildren, family remained at the center of his life and was his greatest accomplishment.

Robert Duane Hawley will be remembered with love by those who knew him and by the family who meant so much to him.

Robert is survived by his two children: Daron (Joe) Taylor., of Hopkins; Kevin (Deanna) Hawley, of Mattawan; eight grandchildren: Keaton, Ashtyn, Chase, Austin, Britain, Mason, Braydon, and Hudson. He is also survived by two brothers: Harry “Butch” (Elaine) Hawley, of AZ; and Brian (Theresa) Hawley, of Portage; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Harry Hawley and Wanda Johnson.

Robert is being cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.
