Robert Scott

With grateful hearts and deep sadness, the family of Robert William Scott Sr. announces his peaceful passing on July 9, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the age of 98. Born on March 18, 1927, in Wayne, Michigan, Robert was a man of quiet strength, steady dedication, and unwavering love for his family.

He was the beloved son of Floyd Scott and Helen McGinley and attended Kalamazoo Central High School. In the final months of his senior year, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country. He proudly received his high school diploma following the completion of his honorable service.

Upon returning home, Robert married the love of his life, Joyce Rapp, on January 11, 1947, in a ceremony at her family home in Kalamazoo. Together, they built a strong and loving family, welcoming their son Robert Jr. in 1947 and their daughter Marcia in 1951. Their marriage spanned an incredible seventy-five years and was a testament to lasting love and devotion.

Robert's professional journey included work at a local paper mill and volunteering as a firefighter for the Milwood community before joining Consumers Power Company, where he remained a dedicated employee for thirty-two years until his retirement.

Outside of work, Robert was a man of many interests. He enjoyed camping trips, woodworking projects, antiquing adventures, and working as an auctioneer. He also gave back to his community through his involvement as a Little League assistant coach and umpire, passing on not just skills but encouragement and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Joyce; his parents, Floyd and Helen; his mother-in-law, Ilah Rapp; brother-in-law, Jim Rapp; son-in-law, Jim Shrauger; and his grandson, Mike Scott.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Robert (Pam) Scott Jr. and Marcia Shrauger; grandchildren: Greg (Marjory) Thompson, Kelly Scott, and Scott (Tomi Jo) Shrauger; and great-grandchildren: Maya Scott, Alex, Drake, and Tatum Johnson, Autum Libbey, Travis Thompson, and Jordan and Hunter Shrauger.

In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation has taken place. A public memorial service to honor and celebrate Robert's life will be held at the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 2929 Nazareth Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49048, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Ken Schmidt officiating. A time of light refreshments will be had following the service.
