Rollie LaVerne Riggs

Rollie LaVerne Riggs, a beloved resident of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born on August 18, 1939, in Union City, OH, the son of George and Lucille (Smith) Riggs.

Rollie led a fulfilling life and found joy in various activities. He had a green thumb and found solace in gardening, nurturing beautiful plants and flowers. Golfing was another passion of his, where he spent many enjoyable hours on the course. Rollie also cherished moments spent playing cards, engaging in friendly competition with his loved ones. During the winter months, he eagerly looked forward to his trips to Florida, where he could bask in the warmth of the sun. Rollie had a fondness for NASCAR and followed the races with great enthusiasm. Above all, his greatest source of happiness came from being surrounded by his family and friends.

Rollie is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Kay, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He is also survived by his sister, Cora (Larry) Richards, and his daughters: Cheryl (Mike) Lewis, Brenda Riggs, and Gwen (Charlie) Saulino. Rollie's presence will be greatly missed by his granddaughters: Meghan (Michael) Turner, Miranda (Garrett) DeHaven, Mackenzie (Josh) Blaszak, and Hanna McNett. He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his great-grandchildren: Kendall, Cason, Wyatt, Graham, Everette, and Elaina.

In memory of Rollie LaVerne Riggs, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either Saint Jude or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. These organizations were dear to Rollie's heart, and your contributions will help continue the important work they do. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Rollie will forever be remembered for his zest for life, his warm presence, and his unwavering love for his family. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his cherished memories bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.

In accordance with the family’s wishes public services will be held at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, 120 South Woodhams Street, Plainwell, MI 49080, on Friday, July 14, 2023, with a time for visiting beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Dyke officiating. Rollie will be laid to rest at West Cooper Cemetery immediately following the service.
