Ronald Eugene LaFond

Ronald Eugene LaFond, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Plainwell, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026 at the age of 84. He was born on July 25, 1941, in South Haven, MI. He was the son of Henry and Lucille (Weltback) LaFond. He was a man defined by his independence, strong will, loyalty, and remarkable handiwork, Ronald’s life was a testament to dedication.

Ronald was raised in the Allegan school. It was at a Jehovah Witness Assembly he met Beverly Sibbrel, a meeting that blossomed into a 62 year journey. Ronald and Beverly were married on April 11, 1964, in Reading, Pennsylvania, a union that would endure through the many travels and adventures that followed.

Professionally, Ronald was a skilled welder whose expertise took him to several places over the years. He worked as a welder at Reading Body in Reading, Pennsylvania, before spending 14 years in Utah. While in Moab, Utah, he contributed his talents at Rio Algom Mine. Eventually, Ronald and Beverly made their home in Allegan, Michigan, where he continued to apply his welding skills in various roles. His mechanical mind and ability to fix almost anything extended beyond his work, as he also enjoyed working on cars during his leisure time.

Ronald and Beverly shared a deep passion for travel, journeying across the United States and exploring nearly every state. Their love for the outdoors was evident in their visits to numerous national parks, which provided a backdrop for many fond memories.

A devoted husband and a man of great capability, Ronald will be remembered for his practical nature, resilience, and unwavering loyalty. He cherished sports, often watching games on television, and took pleasure in the challenge of mechanical repairs. His talents and personality left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

The legacy Ronald leaves behind is one of hard work, an adventurous spirit, and a loving partnership with Beverly. His memory will endure in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Lucille LaFond and his son Ronald Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Beverly; three children: Lorilee (Roland) Roberts, of UT; Dena LaFond, of IN; and Terrylynn LaFond, of IN; two grandchildren: Benton Johnson, of UT; and Alexis Saunders, of Battle Creek; and one great grandchild: Jabari Rudolph.
