Ryan Whitney

Ryan Lee Whitney of Plainwell passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Ryan was born on July 24, 1981, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is the son of Rebecca Presti and Ronald Whitney. He grew up in Kalamazoo and graduated from High School in 1999.

Ryan leaves behind a legacy marked by love, strength, and good humor. He enjoyed working with his hands and fixing anything. Time with his family is what he cherished most. He would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it. He was first to help or just be there and listen.

In 2005, Ryan was introduced to Ivy by a mutual friend. The two hit it off immediately. They were married July 7th, 2007, at Blanch Hall Park. The new couple lived in Kalamazoo until 2013 when they moved to Plainwell.

He was a jack of all trades, but he worked as a Sheet Metal Worker. He is a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 7.

Ryan is survived by his wife Ivy; his children: Julia Whitney and Michael Whitney; his parents: Rebecca (Paul) Presti and Ronald Whitney; his sister Renee (Kameka Carter) Whitney; his niece Kylie Earl as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, Nov. 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All are invited to share memories at 2:30. The memorial will be held at the Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes; 120 South Woodhams Street. Plainwell, MI 49080. 269 685-5881. A private interment is being planned for a later date at Hillside Cemetery.
