Sally Lou Fort

November 19, 1945 — October 15, 2023

Vicksburg, MI

Sally Lou Fort, born Sally Lou Homan on November 19, 1945, in Vicksburg, MI, passed away on October 15, 2023, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was the daughter of Robert and Velma (Garrison) Homan. Sally was a dear wife to Buzz Fort and a devoted mother to her two children, Adam and Dana.

Sally attended Vicksburg High School prior to graduating from Grand Ledge Academy.  Her rich and fulfilling career began at the Shakespeare Company and Associates Loan in Kalamazoo before transitioning to Franklin Hospital in Vicksburg, which later became Bronson Vicksburg Hospital.  Here, she served as a ward clerk and also worked in patient registration. In her later years, Sally worked for Modern Tile and Carpet as a receptionist. Her dedication to her profession and unwavering commitment to helping others made her a valuable asset and highly respected among colleagues.

Beyond her professional life, Sally had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling to the U.P. of Michigan with Buzz during the fall season to admire the vibrant colors that painted the landscape. Along the way, they would stop at casinos and enjoy some lighthearted fun. Sally had a passion for fashion; she owned hats for every occasion and effortlessly added charm to any gathering.  She was even known to wear a fancy hat while watching the Kentucky Derby at home.

Sally was a friend to all and a mother to many. She was not only known for her sense of style but also for her culinary skills. As a great cook, family and friends looked forward to visiting the Fort household, especially Adam and Dana’s friends growing up. Sally's delicious creations brought joy and satisfaction to all. Her talents extended beyond the family dining table as she was renowned for the food she prepared for deer camp. Regardless of the occasion, Sally always provided an abundance of food that left everyone feeling loved and content.

A compassionate soul with an affinity for animals, Sally found solace in having pets throughout her life. Her loving nature extended beyond humans as she cared deeply for furry companions as well.

Sally will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, generosity, thoughtfulness, and family-oriented nature. She possessed a spirited personality that could be described as lovingly sassy at times. Her ability to bring laughter and joy into the lives of those around her was truly remarkable. Sally was true to herself and had the ability to make people feel comfortable with her mere presence. Her ability to always see the best in everyone and be quick to love was admired by many.

After first meeting in 7th grade, Buzz and Sally reunited later through Buzz’s sister Janet and fell in love.  On September 8, 1968, they were married in Fulton, MI. Through enduring love, they built a strong foundation and were blessed with a wonderful family. Their marriage served as one of Sally's proudest accomplishments and symbolized the commitment they had for each other.

Sally leaves behind a legacy filled with cherished memories and lasting impressions. Her gentle spirit and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of her surviving family and friends. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us celebrate the life she lived and the joy she brought into our lives.
