Sharon Ann Schmitt, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away comfortably at home in Schoolcraft, Michigan, on November 4, 2024, at the age of 75. She was born on May 25, 1949, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and throughout her life, she made significant contributions to her family, community, and profession.
Sharon dedicated 30 years of her career to serving as an office manager for several dental practices, a role that showcased her organizational skills and commitment to a welcoming and well-run work environment. She graduated from Kalamazoo Loy Norrix High School in 1967 and furthered her education at Western Michigan University, laying a strong foundation for her professional life.
Beyond her career, Sharon cherished spending time with her family. She was a loving mother who played an integral role in her children's education, helping them with their schoolwork and guiding them as they embarked on their journeys through college and onto leading meaningful lives. Her children include Margaret Long and David Paul Schmitt, as well as her late son, John Schmitt, who she adored.
Sharon's passion for life extended to her hobbies, which included quilting and crocheting, crafts through which she expressed her love and creativity. She particularly enjoyed traveling for cultural and antiquing experiences, finding joy in the stories that objects tell and in the environments she explored.
As an avid reader and published writer, Sharon fostered a strong connection with literature and storytelling, often sharing her insights with those around her. Her generous spirit shone brightly in her many volunteer efforts; she produced beautiful quilts for charitable organizations, emphasizing her commitment to helping those in need. Her strong connections were also evident in her support of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, reflecting her love for all living beings.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Wes Schmitt; her daughter, Margaret Long; her son, David Paul Schmitt; her granddaughter, Sarah Schmitt; her daughter-in-law, Ann Schmitt; her son-in-law, Stephen Long; and her grandson-in-law, Tyler Nichols. She is also remembered fondly by her sisters, Shirley Percy and Susan Everts, and their families, as well as numerous cousins and their families.
Sharon is preceded in death by her dear mother, Jean Everts; her father, Dale Everts; and her beloved son, John Schmitt. Her warmth and generosity will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Sharon Ann Schmitt leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community service that will resonate in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
