Mr. Timon L. Kendall, a beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, educator and mentor, passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on May 29, 1948 in Anniston, Alabama to the late Willie Kendall Jr. and the late Gracie L. Kendall. Timon dedicated over 40 years of his life to shaping the minds and futures of young people throughout the various communities he served.
Timon began his teaching career at Pierre Moran Middle School in Elkhart, Indiana, and continued his teaching journey at North Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His passion for education and leadership led him to become a principal, where he spent a decade leading Northrop High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, instilling values of determination and perseverance in his students. After retiring from Fort Wayne Community Schools, he continued his commitment to youth as a middle school principal and central office administrator for Kalamazoo Public Schools in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Those who had the privilege of learning under his guidance will always remember his patient spirit and honesty—qualities that made his mentorship invaluable. One of his mentees recently expressed how Timon had a unique ability to both encourage and challenge them, stating, "He told me when I was wrong and he told me when I was right, and it was the same tone."
Education was not merely a profession for Timon; it was deeply intertwined with his life’s mission. Additionally, during his time in Fort Wayne, Timon started a DJ business named Unique Lighting and Sound, providing jobs and a positive outlet for youth seeking direction. His dedication to mentoring extended far beyond the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
Timon earned a Master's degree in Education Administration from Ball State University and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology and Teaching from Indiana State University, where he also played football for the Sycamores for four years. He treasured his education immensely and used it as a platform to positively influence others.
An avid traveler, Timon cherished time spent with family, exploring the country in their RV. From the landscapes of Oregon to the scenic vistas of Prince Edward Island, the family journeyed together to places like Key West, Colorado, Maine, Arizona and Yellowstone, creating lasting memories along the way. With a deep appreciation for nature, Timon felt most at home during family adventures to national parks in the family's RV.
His personality was characterized by a selfless passion for helping others, consistently putting the needs of those around him before his own. Timon was actively involved in coaching, splitting wood, woodworking, completing house projects, and traveling with his family. He particularly treasured his time spent at the softball diamond, where he coached his daughters who both went on to play Division I softball in college, seizing every opportunity to inspire and teach both them and their teammates through encouragement and life lessons.
A cherished memory from his time at Northrop involved reading the story "Wet Oatmeal Kisses" to graduating seniors, a narrative that resonated deeply with his philosophy on life and growth. The message it conveyed—that moving forward is an essential part of life ("And they will" the story read) —echoes the lessons he imparted to many. With a life truly devoted to uplifting others, we reflect on Timon’s profound impact, and as a heartfelt tribute, we say, "And he did."
Those who will cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Miriam J. Kendall of Mattawan, Michigan, his two daughters Lisa D. Kendall of South Bend, Indiana and Amy L. (Matt) Stoos of Kalamazoo, Michigan; his four sisters Jean (George) Smith and Phyllis (Rickey) Bonds of South Bend, Indiana, Angela (Wyatt) Garrett of Palmdale, California, and Margret (Reginald) Atkins of Indianapolis, Indiana, and two brothers Michael (Peggy) Kendall of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Tracy (Kim) Kendall of Lithonia, Georgia.
Timon is preceded in death by his mother Gracie L. (Edwards) Kendall (2014) and father Willie L. Kendall Jr. (1992) of South Bend, Indiana; brother Phillip (Becky) Kendall of Irving, Texas (2017); and sister Cheryl (Wallace) Sconiers of Van Nuys/San Diego, California (2021).
A small celebration of Timon's life will take place for immediate family and friends next year, honoring the kindness and compassion he shared with all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made for trees to be planted to honor Timon and his love for nature.
