Veronika W. Thompson

Veronika W. Thompson passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Facility August 5, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born October 3, 1927, in Vicksburg, MI to Katherine and Anthony Hargot.

Veronika graduated from Vicksburg High School and Parson's Business School in Kalamazoo. She was joined in marriage to William (Bill Thompson) in 1955 and in 1961 they were blessed with the arrival of their son, Scott. Veronika was an accomplished secretary with a distinguished career. She was a medical secretary at the Pine Crest TB Sanitorium in Oshtemo and later, at the Southwestern Michigan TB Sanitorium in Kalamazoo. In later years, she was an Executive Secretary for the Vice President at the Brown Company (James River) in Kalamazoo.

Veronika was extremely intelligent and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling with her family and continued to travel with friends in her retirement years. Veronika was very social and loved polka dancing. She was also a keen card player and had the winning hand more often than not. Veronika loved dogs and always named them Susie. Most recently, a favorite activity was outings with a friend and Susie (#5) in search of the best chili dogs. She always insisted Susie have her own.

Veronika is survived by friends and neighbors Cindra and Tracy Burnside, Laura Whitcomb, and the Morgan Family. She recently has had two outstanding and devoted caregivers, Dianna and Susan. Veronika was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, and two brothers, Edward Hargot and Stanley Hargot.

Veronika will be remembered as pragmatic, smart, funny, gracious, and generous. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Kalamazoo County Animal Services or St. Joseph Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 11th, 2025, at 11am at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 5855 East W Ave, Vicksburg. There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Vicksburg Cemetery.
