William Prosper Stewart III

August 1, 1955 – May 1, 2025

William “Bill” P. Stewart III passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a man of quiet strength, possessing an insatiable curiosity and an unwavering dedication to learning. His world revolved around knowledge, the solitude of nature, and the comfort of music—all of which provided him with a sense of peace and purpose.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, on August 1, 1955, Bill spent most of his life in Shelby Township, Michigan, before moving to Grand Junction in 2012. His sharp mind and hunger for knowledge led him to study computer science at Macomb Community College and later at Oakland University. He had a keen fascination with the stock market and a devotion to day trading, always refining his strategies and exploring new opportunities. He was a deep thinker with a love for history and politics, and was known for his sharp insights in any discussion.

Bill found happiness and harmony in the great outdoors. Nature was not just a place to visit—it was his refuge. Hunting and fishing were more than hobbies; they were his passion. His greatest joy came from planning his next trip and immersing himself in nature’s wonders. He carried fond memories of hunting and fishing trips with his father and brother, cherishing every moment he spent with them in the forest or on the water.

Music was another constant in Bill’s life, it was his personal joy that required no audience. He played piano and guitar with quiet dedication, losing himself in melodies that reflected his mood and inner world. His taste in music was vast, and while he enjoyed playing alone, he also relished occasional jam sessions with friends. These moments—brief, lively, and filled with laughter—were rare glimpses of his social side, reminders that while he valued solitude, he was not without companionship.

Bill’s generous spirit shone through in his role as a devoted uncle to his two nephews and niece. He took immense pride in teaching them about the beauty of the outdoors, passing down his love for nature and adventure.

Most of all, family was at the heart of Bill’s world. Preceded by his parents, Betty Marie Williams and William Prosper Stewart Jr., they shaped his curiosity and resilience. His bond with his brother, Scott, was steadfast and profound, built on shared experiences and an unspoken understanding. He deeply loved his sister, Lisabeth, her husband, Richard, and their children, Evan and Erin, as well as Scott’s son, Adam. Their presence meant everything to him, and his love for them was unwavering—as was their love for him.

Bill will be deeply missed, but his legacy—his wisdom, independence, and quiet passions—lives on in those he inspired.
